100 Years of Scouting Celebration!

President Peterson would like every ward to take a night with the scouts and celebrate 100 years of scouting.
He has asked that you watch the church broadcast with your scouts.
This is a big deal so please give it its due honor.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints is the largest chartered organization associated with the BSA which includes over 420,000 youth!

New & Improved Canoga Park Stake Youth Info Dissemination!

ATTENTION ALL STAKE YOUTH LEADERS MEMBERS:

It seems hardly anyone is actually looking at this info on the blog (canogaparkstakeyouth.blogspot.com) directly so lets give this connection stuff a try...  Any Blog post will automagically be disseminated to the web via Twitter and FaceBook.

Hopefully this will enable an easier path for the youth, parents, and leaders to get info and share that info out to other members or friends outside the church (WOOT WOOT for Missionary work!)

Please spread the word and if you have a suggestion of how to make this easier then PLEASE let us know!

EFY Registration deadline

Ward/Stake leaders need the names of youth ages 14+ who plan to attend EFY on Saturday Nov 2.  The Stake is paying for them so it is important they make a commitment because we do not get reimbursed for non-attendance (ie: the Lords money will be wasted).  Please report confirmed attendee numbers as soon as you can.

Santa Clarita Stake Center (19513 Drycliff Street, Canyon Country, CA)

Check-in is at 2p and speakers begin at 3p at Santa Clarita.  The event is over at 9p.  See the following flier for further details and distribute it to the youth.

Ward leaders need not attend this event, but if you are driving youth back and forth and plan to stay, please let us know immediately so we can purchase tickets for you.

IT IS SUNDAY DRESS STANDARDS - Same as for our dances.

A CHALLENGE FROM PRESIDENT BALL:
Please let the YM know that I will compete with them and make them a small wager: For any team or YM (individually) who can beat me, I will pony up an In & Out burger meal (maybe a # 2).
(I realize that certain YM leaders like Scott Barton or Kelly Karren will eat me alive if they are there, but I think I can still make it interesting for the boys to compete...give them a little incentive to beat the "old dog." I'm just silly enough to think I still have a little bit of bark in me.
Enjoy. See you all there.

Our annual Scout Triathlon is coming up soon on Sept. 21ths. Everyone 14 and older are invited to come and Challenge yourself either individually or as a team. Please pass on this information to all your young men leaders. We look forward to seeing you there. I was just informed that the Tommy's burger truck will be there to offer 200 free Tommy burgers to participants after the race!

Youth Conference Service Project Update

Just a few updates:

Based on meetings with 4 city departments, for the projects they want us to work on the following gardening tools will be needed:
- Metal rakes
- Flat nosed shovels
- Hoes
- Gardening gloves
Please bring as many tools as possible and mark them with the owners name. Without the tools we will not be nearly as effective as we could be.

Please remind the youth about the black t-shirts (men's undershirts come in a 3-pack at Walmart). Washing them ahead of time will make the paint adhere better.

Do not hesitate to contact either me or Neil Devor with any questions.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT OF OUR EFFORTS.

Youth Conference Updates

We are looking forward to a great youth conference. Attached you will find:
  • Youth/Ward Itinerary and list of instructions. Everything in RED pertains to ward transportation assignments.
  • Flier for distribution to all youth ages 14-18 years old.

Listed below are the support efforts we are asking for from the wards. Ward representatives are not required to travel to Camp Hinckley unless notified by a stake leader.
  • Distribute and collect permission slips
  • Provide transportation to and from the service project on Thursday and to Swim Party at Petersons
  • 2 leaders present/supporting Thursday activities
  • Wards arrange Host Homes/ two per ward. One for YM and YW. Host Homes provide breakfast on Friday morning.
  • Provide transportation from the party to the host home, and back to the stake center on Friday morning at 7:00am.
  • “I’m a Mormon” youth videos sent to Neil Devor by Friday AUG 2nd
  • Bishops need to provide the youth temple recommend list for the Redlands Temple baptisms

Please distribute this information both in hard copy and electronically if possible. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. THANK YOU for all your help and support.

WE ARE ALSO ASKING THAT EACH YOUTH BRING A SOLID BLACK T-SHIRT. THEY CAN BE PURCHASED IN PACKETS OF 3 AT WALMART, V-NECK OR ROUND MEN'S T-SHIRTS, SO IT MIGHT BE NICE IF THOSE WITH THE SAME SIZE GOT TOGETHER TO BUY THEM.

Additional information about Youth Conference:
If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to email or call Presidents Zollinger or Devor.
  1. Can non-members or less actives attend Youth Conference?
    • ABSOLUTELY! There was some concern regarding Temple Baptisms. Those will only be one hour out of the entire event. There could be several reasons why a youth might not attend the temple at that time. We will have something for them to do at the Stake Center we have reserved next to the temple.
  2. What type of permission slips will be needed?
  3. What is Brother Devor’s email address where the I AM A MORMON VIDEOS are sent?
    • [neil.devor<at>gmail] please send by Aug 2nd. Keep in mind these are to be very simple, and short, and not a major video production.
  4. Every youth should bring a black t-shirt (men’s 3 pack of t-shirts can be purchased at Walmart).  We will be stenciling them.
  5. Each ward is to provide Host Homes to house their own youth only on Thursday night.
  6. What is the service project and what time does it begin?
    • The service project has not been defined at this point. If you have something in mind that can accommodate 50 people, please notify a member of the YM or YW Presidency ASAP. It is extremely difficult to work with a group this large and several options have fallen through. At this point we are assuming it will be something associated with yard work of some kind and will begin at 1:00 - we will meet at the Stake Center at that time and travel to the service location.

I've attached a flier that you may print and hand out to the youth and their parents.

APRIL Tri-Stake Dance

This dance brings youth from all over making it a large group who enjoys each others company and eagerly welcome new friends. Please encourage your youth to attend these great events so they can be at the right place, at the right time, with the right people!

Also- the flier does not include the information about a

SPEED DATING ACTIVITY for Priests and Laurels prior to the dance at 7:30. Root Beer floats will be served.

This has been done successfully in the past and the kids always have fun with it.

(This has also been distributed to YM-YW leaders throughout the region)
